S and S Timms Antiques Ltd has dated this Georgian Elm Close Stool to the Georgian era.
Close stools are a fascinating reminder of everyday life during the 18th century.
Today, with their original function thankfully consigned to history, surviving examples are increasingly appreciated for their rarity, originality and charm, whilst their compact proportions make them exceptionally useful as bedside cupboards, lamp tables or occasional pieces around the home.

This example is a particularly charming one, boasting beautifully figured solid elm timbers which have mellowed over almost three centuries to a wonderfully rich colour and patina. It also retains its original brass handles and original bracket feet, whilst its wonderfully compact proportions make it an exceptionally practical piece of antique furniture, equally suited for use as a bedside cupboard, lamp table or occasional cabinet within both traditional and contemporary interiors.

As with all items which we offer for sale, this piece has been inspected and attended to within our workshops by our highly skilled antique furniture restorers. It has received a natural wax polish and is therefore presented in excellent condition, ready for immediate placement within the home following purchase.
