Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III mahogany nightstand is an 18th-century English bedside cabinet crafted during the reign of King George III (17601820). These pieces typically feature high-grade mahogany, gallery or tray tops, and enclosed storage solutions such as tambour doors or lower drawers, reflecting neoclassical proportion and restraint.

Georgian cabinetmakers utilised dense West Indian or Cuban mahogany, solid oak or pine for internal drawer linings, and hand-cut dovetail joinery. Details often included hand-slatted tambour doors running on concealed tracks, satinwood inlay, and hand-cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces display signs of hand construction, including irregular hand-cut dovetails, hand-sawn timber marks on back panels, and natural oxidisation of unvarnished wood surfaces. Original brass fittings will exhibit subtle hand-finished variations rather than uniform modern machine precision.

A Georgian nightstand can serve as a refined accent piece beside a upholstered bed or as an occasional end table in a living room. Pairing the deep warm tones of mahogany with contemporary neutral wall palettes, textured linens, and modern lighting creates a balanced contrast.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high-humidity areas to prevent wood movement or finish deterioration.
