Gents Eterna-matic 3000 Automatic Wrist Watch, 1963

1940 - 1960
Description

Gents Eterna-Matic 3000 automatic wrist watch, 1963.

The watch has a 21-jewel automatic movement, calibre 1466U, which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 4,946,277 which dates it back to 1963.

The watch measures 35mm diameter excluding the later winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold capped while the screw-on case back is stainless steel. The case is gold capped which means a generous layer of 14k gold has been applied to the front of the case and the bezel is solid 14k gold. The case is in good condition, just light marking but nothing too serious at all, and a little scratching to the back.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in lovely original condition with original hands, centre seconds date display (initially set by pulling and pushing the crown).

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in its Eterna-Matic 3000 presentation box and Eterna Certificate of Origin (although the previous owner has removed the back page for privacy reasons).

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Automatic wristwatches from the 1960s utilise an internal weighted rotor that winds the mainspring through the natural movement of the wearers wrist, eliminating the requirement for manual daily winding.

Traditional mid-century Swiss dress watches typically feature cases crafted from solid gold, stainless steel, or gold plating over base metal, paired with acrylic crystals and genuine leather straps.

Authentic pieces generally display precise dial printing, manufacturer hallmarks on the movement or case interior, serial numbers, and smooth sweeping movement hands typical of mechanical calibres.

A slim mid-century gold dress watch complements tailored formal attire or smart casual clothing, serving as a subtle accent piece.

Mechanical timepieces require periodic servicing by a qualified horologist every three to five years, alongside protection from water contact, magnetic fields, and sudden impacts.
