A compact Ottoman side table of characteristic octagonal form. The top is finished in ebony, chequered stringing and inlaid mother of pearl (nacre) banding; the central design beautifully inset with mother of pearl and tughra emblem enclosed in an eight point star. This was a calligraphic insignia or seal of the reigning Sultan.
