FAQs

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita region and shipped from the port of Imari. It traditionally features underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron-red enamels and gilt decoration.

These pieces are crafted from dense kaolin clay, fired at high temperatures with an underglaze blue decoration, before overglaze enamel pigments and gold leaf are applied in secondary firings.

Authentic pieces display subtle variations in hand-painted detail, spur marks on the base from kiln firing, a slightly greyish-white porcelain body, and minor surface irregularities characteristic of historical handcrafting.

A group of Imari plates can be mounted as a wall arrangement, displayed inside a glazed cabinet, or arranged on stands along a sideboard to introduce bold geometry and rich traditional colours.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and wash carefully by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap. Avoid dishwashers, abrasive sponges, or chemical solvents to protect the delicate surface gilding.
