Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 19th century, a Victorian wine cabinet or cellarette cabinet was constructed to store wine bottles, decanters, and associated glassware within a dining room or parlour.

Cabinets from around 1840 were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers, featuring hand-dovetailed joinery, secondary pine or oak linings, and cast brass escutcheons.

Authentic early Victorian pieces demonstrate hand-planed secondary timber, original brass lock mechanisms, natural surface patina, and traditional joinery techniques across internal frames.

A low-profile Victorian cabinet functions effectively as a drinks station or hallway storage unit, contrasting clean modern lines with historic timber grain and deep tones.

Maintain mahogany furniture by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying beeswax once or twice a year while avoiding direct heat sources and damp conditions.
