Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian barrel back armchair typically features a rounded, curved backrest designed to retain warmth from a fireplace while shielding the occupant from draughts. Originating in 18th-century Britain, these chairs were prominent features in formal reception rooms and fireside settings.

Frames were commonly crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or oak for structural durability. Upholstery traditionally incorporated natural horsehair stuffing, webbed seat bases, and brass castors attached to square tapered or turned timber legs.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved joinery, square peg construction, and hand-forged brass castors on the front legs. The internal back frame often exhibits structural wood curvature consistent with 18th or early 19th-century cabinetmaking techniques.

Reupholstering the traditional silhouette in modern patterned fabrics creates a balanced contrast against minimalist backdrops. Placing the chair alongside contemporary side tables or under ambient reading lights allows its historic form to function as a focal point.

Dust the upholstery regularly using a soft brush attachment and vacuum on low suction settings. Protect wooden legs by conditioning the timber with natural beeswax, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and damp environments.
