Louis XVI style mirrors are characterised by neoclassical principles, featuring symmetrical shapes, floral crestings, acanthus leaves, and ribbon motifs that draw inspiration from classical Greco-Roman antiquity.

Traditional giltwood mirrors were built using hand-carved softwoods or pine, coated with layers of gesso, and finished using either water gilding or oil gilding with thin sheets of gold leaf.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved wood joinery on the reverse, signs of age-related wear or oxidisation on the glass plate, and natural distress on the gilded gesso layer.
