Crafted as either standing or wall-mounted units, they were primarily used in dining rooms and parlours to protect glass, china, and valuable household items.

These cabinets were typically constructed from solid native timbers such as oak, fruitwood, or walnut, often featuring mortise-and-tenon joinery and hand-planed backboards.
