Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte in the early 19th century, French Empire clocks are characterized by neoclassical architectural forms, dark woods such as mahogany, and elaborate gilt-bronze mounts inspired by ancient Roman and Greek motifs.

These clocks typically feature cases constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, fitted with cast ormolu or brass mounts, white enamel dials, and mechanical movements driven by brass gears and steel springs.

Authentic period examples generally display finely chased fire-gilded bronze mounts, hand-lettered or enamelled dials showing Roman numerals, and period-appropriate movement suspension systems such as silk or steel thread.

Place the clock centrally on a stone fireplace mantelpiece, atop a dark wood sideboard, or within a curated bookcase alongside contemporary art prints to create visual contrast between historical and modern elements.

Dust the exterior regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, keeping chemical polishes away from original gilded surfaces, and ensure the mechanical movement is serviced every three to five years by a professional horologist.
