Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French clock garniture is a decorative set traditionally placed on a mantelpiece, consisting of a central clock flanked by a pair of matching side ornaments such as urns, vases, or candelabra. Originating in 17th-century France, these sets became widespread across Europe during the 19th century as hallmarks of formal interior decoration.

High-quality French clock garnitures from this period typically combine carved white marble or alabaster with gilded bronze or gilt brass mounts. Clock mechanisms usually feature hand-painted porcelain or enamel dials enclosed within cast metal and sculpted stone cases.

Authentic pieces often display stamped movement makers marks or serial numbers on the brass back plate, hand-chased gilding, and fine porcelain dials with hand-painted numerals. Weight is also an indicator, as heavy marble bases and solid cast bronze fittings were standard features of period construction.

Position the central clock on a grand fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard, flanked symmetrically by the accompanying side urns. The contrasting white stone and gold metal pair well with deep jewel-toned walls, minimalist monochrome schemes, or traditional panelling.

Dust all surfaces gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a fine camel-hair brush for detailed metalwork. Avoid water, harsh chemical cleaners, or metal polishes on gilt bronze surfaces, as these can strip original gilding and damage porous white marble.
