Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 18th-century France and evolving through the Art Deco era of the 1920s and 1930s, clock garnitures were designed as symmetrical three-piece display sets for fireplace mantels. During the Art Deco period, makers shifted from fluid Art Nouveau shapes toward geometric silhouettes, using imported marble, onyx, and stylized metal mounts.

These sets were primarily crafted from quarried marble or onyx slabs combined with cast bronze, brass, or spelter decorative mounts. Clock movements were typically constructed from brass with steel arbors, encased behind glass bezels and mounted directly into the polished stone housing.

Authentic pieces exhibit architectural geometric casing, hand-cut stone components, and period-appropriate numerical typography on the clock dial. Mechanical movements are typically stamped with French maker marks, serial numbers, or pendulum length measurements on the rear brass backplate.

Position the set symmetrically across a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard to create a focal point. Balance the historical marble tones by pairing the set with neutral walls, minimalist artwork, or modern metal accents.

Dust marble surfaces regularly with a soft dry microfiber cloth and avoid acid-based cleaning products that can etch natural stone. Keep brass components free from abrasive chemicals, and ensure the mechanical clock movement is professionally serviced and oiled by a horologist every few years.
