Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique oak dresser base is a long, low piece of storage furniture originally designed in the 17th and 18th centuries to serve food and hold tableware. Unlike full kitchen dressers with upper shelving, a dresser base functions similarly to a modern sideboard or server.

Georgian oak dressers were typically constructed using solid English oak, joined with hand-cut mortise and tenon joints and wooden pegging. Drawers featured hand-dovetailed joints and were often fitted with cast brass drop handles or swan-neck pulls.

Authentic period dressers show uneven hand-planed surfaces, irregular dovetail joints, and naturally developed patination in untouched areas. Original brass backplates often leave distinct footprints on the timber surface if replaced or original.

An oak dresser base can be placed in an entryway, dining room, or living space as a focal sideboard. Balance the dark timber by placing modern ceramics, contemporary lamps, or large framed artwork above the piece.

Maintain antique oak by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood movement and drying.
