A beautiful antique tribal Neyriz rug, woven circa 1910. This rug features a Tree of Life design interspersed with stylised birds and animals on an ivory field and indigo border. Fabulous secondary colours and a great example of tribal weaving.

Size: 2.02m x 1.54m (6ft 8in x 5ft 1in)

This rug is in good condition with light, age related wear, slightly heavier in places (see photos). Fringes and selvedges are secure and it has been professionally cleaned.

Neyriz rugs originate from the Fars province in southwest Persia, crafted by settled and nomadic weavers. They are recognized by stylized pictorial motifs, particularly the Tree of Life design, framed by dense geometric borders and rich natural dyes.

These rugs are crafted using hand-spun wool pile knotted onto a wool or cotton foundation. Dyes were historically derived from natural organic sources such as madder root, indigo, and plant extracts.

Authentic pieces display subtle colour variations, known as abrash, resulting from small batches of hand-dyed yarn. The reverse side reveals an irregular, hand-knotted weave pattern rather than uniform, machine-stitched backing.
