Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A drop dial wall clock features a circular dial casing with an extended lower section, known as the drop trunk, designed to accommodate a pendulum movement. Popularised during the 19th century in Britain, these wall-mounted timepieces were widely utilised across domestic, commercial, and public spaces.

Victorian drop dial clocks commonly feature cases carved from mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, often accented with brass line inlays. The mechanical movements are encased with a brass bezel holding a glass lens, set around a painted iron dial face.

Authentic period clocks feature hand-painted Roman numerals, maker markings on the dial, and brass bezels with side or lower access doors. Internal mechanisms display traditional brass plates, steel pinions, and hand-cut gears consistent with 19th-century horology.

Mounting a dark timber wall clock on a light, neutral backdrop creates a clear visual anchor in entryways, studies, or dining rooms. Combining rich mahogany tones with modern brass accent hardware or clean-lined furniture balances historical craftsmanship with contemporary design.

Position the clock in a stable environment away from direct heat sources, radiators, and damp conditions to prevent timber movement. Professional cleaning and lubrication of the movement by a qualified horologist every three to five years ensures long-term operational accuracy.
