Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cast iron doorstops, often referred to as door porters, became widely popular during the nineteenth century due to advancements in iron foundry moulding. Characters from Punch and Judy puppet shows were among the most prominent thematic subjects produced by foundries across Britain.

Foundries created these items using sand-casting techniques, pouring molten iron into two-part sand moulds. Once cooled, the rough castings were hand-fettled, painted with enamel or oil-based finishes, and sometimes weighted further at the base.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically exhibit crisp detail from quality sand moulds, alongside natural paint loss and patina in high-touch areas. Seams should be tightly fitted or integrated into the design, and the underside usually displays rough, unpolished casting marks.

A cast iron doorstop serves both practical and decorative purposes when positioned beside an internal entryway or near a fireplace hearth. It adds architectural weight, historical texture, and character to contemporary or heritage spaces.

Gently brush away loose dust using a soft-bristled brush, and avoid applying water or harsh detergents which can induce corrosion. To preserve original paintwork and prevent rust, a light coat of clear microcrystalline wax can be applied and gently buffed.
