Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cast iron doorstops, also known as door porters, gained immense popularity during the mid-to-late nineteenth century in Britain. Foundries produced figurative designs ranging from theatrical characters like Mr Punch to animals and historical figures to hold heavy timber doors open.

These items were produced using sand casting moulds, where molten iron was poured into two-part sand impressions. The resulting pieces were finished by hand to remove casting seams and painted or lacquered to protect against surface oxidisation.

Original nineteenth-century examples feature distinct casting lines, slight hand-finished surface irregularities, and natural wear to the base. Authentic pieces exhibit significant weight relative to their size and often show subtle oxidisation or remaining traces of original paint in recessed areas.

A heavy cast iron doorstop can be positioned alongside a hearth, placed at the base of a doorway, or arranged on low shelving as a sculptural accent within rustic, traditional, or eclectic room schemes.

Keep cast iron in a dry environment to prevent rust formation. Dust regularly with a soft bristle brush and apply a thin layer of clear microcrystalline wax to protect the metal finish and preserve existing patina.
