Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originally commissioned in 1739 by Louis XV from sculptor Guillaume Coustou for the Chateau de Marly, the Marly Horses depict wild horses being restrained by grooms. During the 19th century, smaller bronze reductions of these French Neoclassical marble sculptures became popular decorative items across Europe.

Most 19th-century bronze sculptures were produced using lost-wax or sand casting methods. The cast bronze was subsequently hand-chased to refine detail and finished with a chemically applied patina to achieve a brown, black, or dark green surface.

Period castings feature defined musculature, detailed mane and reins, and substantial weight. Look for foundry marks, signatures such as Coustou, and evidence of age-appropriate surface oxidisation and wear around handling points.

Place a pair symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table to establish a balanced, classical focal point. Their dark patinated surface contrasts against light stone, neutral walls, or wood panelled backdrops.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry cloth or soft-bristled brush to prevent dust accumulation in detailed areas. To maintain the patina, apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax annually and buff gently, avoiding liquid polishes or abrasive chemical cleaners.
