An overmantel mirror, traditionally known as a chimney glass, is a large decorative wall mirror designed specifically to sit above a fireplace mantelpiece, serving as a primary focal point in 19th-century reception rooms.

These mirrors were constructed using pine or lime wood frameworks coated with layers of gesso plaster, finished with hand-carved details or moulded ornamentation, and covered in thin layers of gold leaf gilding.
