Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Novelty silver pin cushions became highly popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, particularly between 1890 and 1910. Silversmiths created whimsical, small-scale representations of animals, transport, and figurative characters, departing from traditional utilitarian box designs to cater to avid collectors.

The outer casing was typically cast or stamped in sterling silver, featuring detailed relief work. The interior cushion was constructed using tightly packed horsehair or wool covered in velvet, silk, or cotton fabric to hold pins securely without causing corrosion.

Authentic items feature clear British hallmarks indicating the silver purity mark, town mark, date letter, and makers mark. Prominent makers such as Sampson Mordan & Co frequently produced these items, leaving distinct stamped hallmarks on the base or lower edge.

Small silver novelties are commonly displayed on a desk tray, inside a glass cabinet, or alongside books on a shelf. Their compact scale allows them to function as curio accents within curated object arrangements.

Maintain silver surfaces by gently dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and using a silver polishing cloth for minor tarnish. Avoid submerging the item in liquid or using chemical dips, as moisture can damage the internal cushion material and promote oxidisation.
