Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Napoleon III mantel clocks, produced in France during the Second Empire (18521870), are known for eclectic revival styles blending Rococo, Baroque, and Neoclassical elements. They frequently incorporate gilded metal castings, detailed bronze mounts, and hand-painted porcelain plaques.

French horologists and founders combined gilt bronze (ormolu) or spelter (regule) with painted porcelain panels, enamel dials, and polished marble or onyx bases. Internal mechanisms were typically brass eight-day mechanical movements.

Authentic period pieces often feature maker stamps on the casting or movement backplate, such as foundry marks or sculptor signatures. Additionally, period porcelain panels show authentic hand-painted details and slight surface irregularities consistent with 19th-century kiln firing.

Positioning an ornate gilt clock as a focal piece on a fireplace mantel, sideboard, or console table creates a historical accent. Pairing the warm metallic tones and porcelain detailing with clean contemporary backdrops highlights the craftsmanship of the object.

Dust gilt surfaces gently with a soft microfibre cloth without using liquid polishes or abrasive chemicals, which can strip gilding. Porcelain panels should be wiped with a dry brush, while the internal mechanical clockwork requires professional servicing by a horologist every few years.
