Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A secretaire chest on chest, also known as a tallboy, is a two-part wooden cabinet featuring two stacked chests of drawers, where one drawer folds down to reveal a fitted writing desk interior. Popular during the 18th century in Georgian England, this design combined vertical storage with a compact home office workspace.

Georgian chests on chest were primarily constructed from solid mahogany or oak, often finished with flame mahogany veneers on the drawer fronts. Internal drawer linings were crafted from secondary timbers like pine or oak, complemented by hand-cast brass handles and steel lock mechanisms.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display hand-sawn tool marks on the back panels, hand-cut dovetail joints of irregular width, and natural timber oxidisation on unvarnished surfaces. Additionally, the unit splits into two distinct sections to facilitate transport and shows historic hand-forged iron or brass hardware.

A tallboy provides architectural height and storage efficiency in a bedroom, study, or hallway. Complementing the dark timber with muted, neutral wall shades and contemporary artwork creates a refined contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply a thin coat of high-quality beeswax once or twice a year along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct radiator heat and strong sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer splitting, and colour bleaching.
