A chest on chest, or tallboy, is a two-section vertical storage cabinet featuring a upper chest of drawers mounted atop a slightly larger lower chest of drawers. Developed in the early 18th century, this design allowed for substantial clothing storage without expanding the floor footprint.

Mid-18th-century chest on chests typically feature solid pine or oak carcass construction overlaid with figured walnut, burr walnut, or herringbone veneers. Drawer interiors were traditionally hand-dovetailed, and fittings consisted of cast brass drop handles with decorative backplates.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings with runner wear consistent with age, and natural oxidisation on internal timber surfaces. The back panels are generally rough-sawn pine or oak board constructions secured with hand-forged nails.
