Description

A beautiful antique Qashqai kilim, handwoven by the eponymous nomadic tribe circa 1920. This kilim features a traditional, allover geometrical design on a multicolour field surrounded by an ivory border. Very attractive colours including reds, blues, greens and a vibrant orange. A great example of tribal weaving.

Size: 2.30m x 1.59m (7ft 7in x 5ft 3in)

This kilim is in very good condition with light, age-related wear. Fringes and selvedges are original and secure and it has been professionally cleaned.

A Qashqai kilim is a flat-woven wool carpet traditionally created by the nomadic Qashqai tribes of southwestern Iran, renowned for geometric patterns and rich tribal iconography.

These kilims are constructed primarily from hand-spun sheep wool for both warp and weft threads, coloured using natural plant and mineral dyes.

Authentic pieces feature slit-weave tapestry techniques, slight variations in weave density, tribal diamond or stepped motifs, and subtle colour shifts known as abrash.
