Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A late Victorian pedestal desk typically features two vertical columns of drawers supporting a flat writing surface, often fitted with a leather inset. Popularised during the late nineteenth century, these desks catered to private and professional administrative needs with practical storage and structured proportions.

Victorian writing desks were constructed primarily using solid hardwoods or wood veneers such as walnut, mahogany, and oak. Writing surfaces frequently incorporated gilded or blind-tooled leather, while drawers featured dovetail joints and cast brass handles.

Authentic Victorian pieces generally exhibit hand-cut or early machine-cut dovetail drawer joinery, period brass hardware, and original locks. Examining drawer linings for secondary woods like pine or oak, along with natural age marks, helps confirm nineteenth-century origin.

A Victorian walnut pedestal desk serves as a functional focal point within a home office or library setting. Incorporating modern desk lighting, neutral wall finishes, and modern seating balances historical woodwork with modern utility.

Dust the wood surfaces regularly using a soft cloth and apply beeswax sparingly following the grain to protect the finish. Treat the leather top with a dedicated leather conditioner to avoid drying or cracking, and position the desk away from direct sunlight and radiators.
