Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III chests of drawers, dating from around 1760 to 1820, are recognised for their balanced proportions, mahogany timber, and functional layout. Common configurations include two short upper drawers over three long graduated drawers, often accented with cockbeaded moulding and brass hardware.

Primary surfaces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, valued for their durability and rich grain patterns. Secondary timbers, used for drawer linings and back panels, usually consisted of pine, oak, or poplar, with handles cast from brass.

Authentic Georgian pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer construction, uneven secondary wood surfaces from hand planing, and shrinkage marks consistent with natural timber aging. Hardware mounting holes on the reverse of drawer fronts may also show evidence of original fixings.

A dark mahogany chest provides visual weight and historic character when set against light, modern wall paint. Incorporating contemporary table lamps or minimalist ceramic art objects on the top surface creates an effective balance between traditional joinery and current design aesthetics.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a clear natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the patina. Position the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to minimise timber movement and cracking.
