Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Temple lions, often referred to as guardian lions, Foo dogs, Singha, or Chinthe, are traditional protective statues originating in East and Southeast Asia. They were historically placed outside temples, palaces, and official buildings to ward off harmful influences and symbolise power.

Historically, bronze temple lions were created using the lost-wax casting technique (cire perdue) or sand casting. These processes involved molten copper alloys poured into detailed moulds, followed by hand-chasing to refine surface textures before applying chemical patination.

Authentic bronze guardian lions display natural age wear, oxidisation, and irregular patination in crevices rather than uniform artificial colouring. Traditional hand-tool marks from chasing, heavy cast metal weight, and evidence of lost-wax casting seams on internal surfaces also indicate age.

Bronze temple lions are frequently styled in pairs as sculptural anchors on sideboards, consoles, or mantelpieces. Their dark tone and graphic silhouette provide architectural contrast against contemporary plaster walls or minimalist timber furniture.

Maintain patinated bronze by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth or microfibre brush. To protect the surface patina, apply a light coat of clear microcrystalline wax annually and buff gently, avoiding chemical solvents or abrasive cleaners.
