Description

A fine quality 19th century (circa 1900) bronze figure of the ‘Goat Carver’ signed by Julien Auguste Philibert Lorieux (1876-1915).

This charming bronze figure depicts a young boy, the goat carver, seated on a rock with fur loin cloth to his waist holding a small carved goat in this left hand, signed to base 'J. Lorieux’ also with foundry mark.

Julien Auguste Philibert Lorieux was born in Paris in 1876 later studying under various sculptors and he was particularly known for producing genre figures and portrait busts.

He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français winning a travelling scholarship in 1902 and a first class medal in 1907 and later died of wounds at Tout on the Western front in 1915.

This bronze figure is in very good condition for age and can go straight into a home.
