Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kizil Ayak carpets are traditional hand-knotted textiles woven by the Kizil Ayak tribe of the Turkmen people in Central Asia and northern Afghanistan. They are characterised by their deep red, terracotta, or mahogany fields filled with repeating octagonal gul motifs and framed by multiple geometric borders.

These carpets are crafted using hand-spun sheep wool for both the warp, weft, and pile. The wool was historically coloured with natural dyes sourced from madder root, walnut husks, and indigo to achieve deep reddish-brown and terracotta tones.

Authentic pieces from around 1900 feature tight symmetrical or asymmetrical hand-knotting, soft natural abrash dye variations, and woollen foundations rather than modern synthetic cotton warps. The repetition of specific tribal gul symbols and geometric border bands also helps establish authenticity.

A deep red Turkmen carpet serves as a warm foundation in rooms with dark wood, leather, or neutral linen upholstery. Its structured geometric pattern complements minimalist contemporary schemes or brings depth to traditional and dark academia interiors.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating brush to protect the pile. Rotate the carpet periodically to ensure even wear and sun exposure, and utilise a quality underlay to cushion the hand-knotted knots from floor friction.
