Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French Empire gueridon is a circular centre or side table that originated during the early nineteenth century under the reign of Napoleon I. Characterised by classical Greco-Roman and Egyptian influences, these tables usually feature marble tops, dark flame mahogany veneers, and ornate gilt-bronze mounts.

Craftsmen predominantly used solid mahogany and rich mahogany veneers, complemented by carved or cast gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts. Tops were frequently crafted from heavy imported marble, such as Saint Anne, Belgian Black, or white Carrara marble.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy neoclassical proportions, hand-chased gilt-bronze mounts featuring classical motifs like acanthus leaves or lion paws, and original marble tops with hand-finished edges. The joinery beneath the top typically displays hand-planed timbers and original iron hardware or castors.

A French Empire gueridon serves effectively as a statement focal point in a central entry foyer or as an elegant accent table in a formal drawing room. Its dark wood and marble contrast refined contemporary upholstery and minimalist architectural spaces.

Dust the marble and mahogany surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent etching, and apply a natural beeswax polish to the wooden framework periodically to protect the finish.
