Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Serving tables became prominent in 18th and 19th-century dining rooms as functional platforms for food preparation and display before meals were served. During the Victorian period, cabinetmakers often incorporated revival styles, such as Chippendale and Rococo motifs, featuring elaborate hand-carved details and decorative aprons.

High-grade dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and oak were predominantly used due to their durability and capacity for detailed carving. Secondary woods like pine or oak were often utilised for internal framework or structural support.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of period craftsmanship, such as asymmetrical hand-carved details, hand-cut joinery, natural timber shrinkage across wide tops, and deep age-related patination in recessed areas.

An antique serving table can be integrated into a modern home as a hallway console, dining room sideboard, or drawing room focal point. Combining dark wood surfaces with modern lighting or contemporary artwork creates an effective visual contrast.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent timber warping or veneer lifting.
