Large Victorian Mahogany Davenport

Description

A good quality Victorian mahogany davenport dating from the mid to late 19th Century. It has two beautifully carved S-shaped supports and stands on its original turned bun feet with castors below. The davenport has a sloped front with a tooled leather writing surface and a brass gallery around the top edge. There are four drawers to one side and four dummy drawers to the other. The maple lined interior has an arrangement of pigeon holes and it comes with its original key.

The quality and condition are excellent and it is a particularly large example. It has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished and the mahogany has developed a wonderful rich colour and patina. The drawers open smoothly and the interior is generally clean and tidy. There are no major damages to the exterior. There are some signs of age, minor marks and small knocks and chips but nothing detrimental and overall it is a lovely sturdy piece of furniture.
