Victorian Mahogany Shoe Box Cabinet Ottoman

Description

A handsome antique Victorian shoe cabinet or ottoman in figured mahogany dating from circa 1880 converted from a box commode. Featuring a lift up lid with original brass cup handles to the sides. It has a beautiful flame figured mahogany panelled front and stands on a shaped plinth base. Lovely age and patina to the wood. This piece would have originally started life as a box commode / chamber pot and has been converted into a shoe box /ottoman at some point. An attractive piece it would make a lovely hall cupboard for storing shoes and slippers or as an ottoman in a bedroom.

Good colour and patina. General wear and marks commensurate with age. It would have stated life as a commode and has been converted into shoe cabinet/ ottoman, with old screw holes to the interior. Small section of veneer missing to top right corner under the lid (see photo).
