An overmantel mirror, historically referred to as a chimney glass, is a large decorative wall mirror designed specifically to sit or hang above a fireplace mantelpiece, popularised throughout 18th and 19th-century interior architecture.

These mirror frames were traditionally fabricated from carved softwood timber coated in layers of gesso plaster, which was then detailed, smoothed, and finished with oil or water-gilded real gold leaf.
