Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Turkmen carpets originate from nomadic tribes across Central and South Asia, including Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Iran. They are historically recognised by their deep crimson palettes, repeating octagonal tribal emblems known as guls, and dense geometric border patterns.

Authentic Turkmen rugs are hand-knotted using hand-spun sheeps wool for both the pile and the foundation. Dyes were historically derived from natural plant and mineral sources, such as madder root for deep reds and indigo for dark blues.

Authentic pieces feature slight variations in colour known as abrash, flexible wool foundations, and distinct tribal gul designs specific to sub-tribes like the Tekke, Ersari, or Yomud. The reverse side displays clear, visible knot structures rather than uniform machine backing.

A large crimson tribal carpet serves as an anchoring foundation in living rooms or dining areas. It complements dark wood furniture in traditional spaces or provides warmth and textural contrast against modern neutral floorboards and minimalist furnishings.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating beater bar to protect the pile fibres. Professional dry cleaning or specialist wash services are recommended for spillages, and rotating the rug periodically ensures even wear.
