Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A banjo barometer is a wall-mounted weather instrument named for its distinctive shape resembling a banjo, popularised in the late 18th and 19th centuries. It typically houses an aneroid or mercury barometric mechanism alongside a secondary thermometer scale.

Victorian barometers were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring carved decorative elements. Functional components included silvered or brass dials, glass thermometer tubes, and cast brass bezels.

Authentic Victorian examples feature hand-carved details like acanthus cresting or scrollwork, aneroid or mercury dials with period typography, and cast brass bezels with bevelled glass. Look for natural age patina on the timber and hand-assembled metal components.

Mount the instrument in a hallway, library, or study to create an architectural focal point on a narrow wall section. Positioning dark wood instruments against neutral contemporary paint colours provides visual balance and highlights the carved woodwork.

Keep the barometer away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent the timber frame from warping or splitting. Clean the wooden casing periodically using a soft cloth with natural beeswax polish, and dust the glass face without applying pressure to the pointers.
