Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Black Forest aneroid barometer is a decorative weather instrument encased in hand-carved timber, predominantly produced in Switzerland and Southern Germany during the late nineteenth century. It uses a non-liquid metal capsule that flexes with atmospheric pressure changes to move an indicator needle across a calibrated dial.

These instruments were carved primarily from dense hardwoods such as walnut, linden, or oak. The internal mechanism features brass bezels, glass cover plates, ceramic or enamel thermometer scales, and metallic aneroid capsules.

Authentic period pieces exhibit deep, high-relief hand carving with crisp architectural or botanical detail, such as oak leaves, acorns, and sporting items. The wood displays natural patina, minor shrinkage marks around joinery, and period-correct mechanical dial markings.

This item functions effectively as a focal decorative accent when mounted on a narrow wall space, within a traditional study, or positioned above a console table alongside textured plaster or timber panelling.

Dust the detailed carving regularly using a soft, dry natural-bristle brush, avoiding liquid cleaners near the dial face. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and apply a microcrystalline wax or natural beeswax sparingly to protect the wood finish.
