Originating in the nineteenth century, these compact occasional tables were designed to hold oil lamps, candles, or tea cups. They typically feature a circular top supported by a turned central pedestal terminating in a carved tripod cabriole base.

High-grade dense timber, predominantly imported rosewood or mahogany, was selected for its rich grain patterns and dark tone. Pedestals were turned on a lathe, while the tripod feet were hand-carved and joined with dowel or dovetail fittings.
