Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Beehive candlesticks are a popular style of Victorian candle holder characterised by turned brass shafts featuring stacked, ribbed rings that resemble traditional straw beehives or skeps. Produced predominantly throughout the 19th century in Britain, they were designed for domestic tabletop illumination.

These pieces were typically cast in brass using multi-part sand moulds, after which the turned components were joined together and finished on a lathe. Many Victorian examples include internal push-up ejector mechanisms designed to raise wax stubs out of the socket.

Original pieces display hand-lathed turning marks, subtle asymmetries from manual casting, and slight wear around high-contact areas like the base and socket. They also possess substantial visual weight and often show natural patination or slight surface oxidation within hard-to-reach crevices.

Place a pair on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or dining centrepiece to add metallic warmth and historical contrast to modern rooms. Combining them with neutral taper candles and surrounding organic materials creates a balanced, layered display.

Remove residual wax by immersing the bases in hot water until soft, avoiding abrasive scraping tools that scratch the surface. Polish gently with a dedicated brass cleaner and soft cotton cloth to preserve the natural metal surface without removing desirable patination.
