Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian brass candlesticks typically feature elaborate lathe-turned designs with central knops, balusters, and faceted detailing on square, octagonal, or circular bases. Manufactured during the nineteenth century, they reflect the eras preference for sturdy, decorative metalwork designed for domestic lighting.

Pieces from this era were generally cast in two vertical halves from solid brass and soldered together, or hollow-cast with push-up ejector mechanisms inside the stem to lift spent wax ends. Bases were often weighted or finished with hand-turned threaded rods securing the stem components.

Authentic pieces usually display minor asymmetrical hand-finishing marks, vertical seam lines along the stem from the casting process, and natural surface wear or oxidisation on the underside of the base. They are noticeably heavier than modern lightweight reproductions.

Positioning a pair of brass candlesticks on a dining table, sideboard, or mantelpiece adds warm metallic tones and sculptural height to a modern room scheme. Pairing them with neutral taper candles creates an elegant contrast against contemporary paint colours or timber surfaces.

To preserve brass, remove wax build-up by soaking the affected area in hot water until the wax melts away rather than scraping with metal tools. Polish periodically with a gentle metal cream using a soft cotton cloth, avoiding abrasive pads that can scratch the surface.
