Omega Seamaster Chronostop 1968 Wrist Watch

Later than 1960
Description

Iconic and screaming 70's (despite being produced in the late 60's)! This Omega Seamaster 145.008 makes no excuses for being different. Powered by the legendary 865 Calibre manual wind movement this version of the Chronostop features an internal rotating bezel powered which even to this day some 50 years later is hard to find in a watch.

41mm x 47mm steel cushion case that gives it that 70's look despite this one being produced around 1968. Original black dial and white hands. There is clear discolouration giving a patina however like most vintage pieces we stock has been left as original as it can be after a through clean.

Fitted to a steel Omega bracelet with folding clasp that would fit a wrist to 7.75 inches, the bracelet although Omega signed it is a later bracelet added at some point.

Recent full service shows this watch running at +/- 2 seconds per day with an amplitude of 226. Guaranteed for piece of mind for a further 12 months.

Our view - An excellent example of this iconic watch, yes it shows wear and tear and has clearly been well loved and used over the last 50 years. Exceptional working order and a worthy addition to any collection or a first time manual wind Omega.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced in 1966, the Omega Chronostop was designed as a simplified single-pusher chronograph targeted at younger consumers and sports enthusiasts. It featured a unique stop-second movement intended for measuring short intervals rather than extended elapsed time.

During this era, cases were predominantly constructed from solid stainless steel or gold plating, paired with acrylic crystals and hand-wound mechanical movements such as the Calibre 865 or 920. Dial designs featured applied indices and painted tritium luminous accents.

Authenticity is verified by checking for matching reference numbers inside the case back, correct manufacturer logos on the crown and dial, and a genuine Omega manual-wind movement stamped with its individual serial number.

A stainless steel vintage chronograph serves as a versatile accessory that pairs naturally with structured tailored suiting as well as smart casual attire like knitwear and leather jackets.

Mechanical timepieces require routine servicing every three to five years by a qualified watchmaker to clean, lubricate, and adjust the movement components, alongside avoiding water exposure to protect original dials and hands.
