Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Console tables with marble tops gained immense popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries in France and Britain, designed primarily to sit flat against walls in grand reception rooms and corridors. The marble surface provided a practical, durable top for holding hot items, oil lamps, or heavy decorative urns while adding a luxurious visual contrast to polished wooden frames.

Traditional construction paired fine hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or gilded wood with natural quarried stone, particularly veined marble varieties like Rouge Royal, Carrara, or Saint Anne. Joinery typically relied on mortise and tenon joints to support the considerable weight of the marble slab.

Authentic pieces from this period display crisp hand-carved relief details rather than moulded resin substitutes, along with age-appropriate wear to the timber finish. Examining the underside of the stone often reveals rough-sawn marble slabs with natural hand-chiseled undersides rather than modern machine-cut finishes.

Position the table in an entrance hall or narrow corridor to maximize floor space while creating a focal point. Mount an oversized contemporary artwork or modern gilt mirror directly above the table and anchor the stone surface with a table lamp, books, or ceramic vessels.

Clean the marble surface using a pH-neutral stone cleaner and avoid acidic liquids that can etch natural stone. Treat the wooden frame with microcrystalline wax or high-grade beeswax, buffing gently along the grain, and keep the table away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
