Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A console table is a narrow table designed to stand against a wall, supported by front legs and anchored at the rear or resting on a plinth base. Originating in 17th-century Italy, these tables were crafted as architectural statement pieces for entry halls and formal reception rooms.

During the 19th century, Italian cabinetmakers predominantly utilised solid mahogany or mahogany veneers combined with polished marble tops, such as Carrara marble. Structural elements often included hand-carved reeded or spiral-twisted legs and heavy plinth bases for support.

Authentic 19th-century Italian pieces feature hand-carved detailing, natural age-related patina on the timber, and hand-cut joinery beneath the marble slab. The marble tops often display subtle surface wear, bevelled edges, and undersides showing historical saw marks.

Place the pair symmetrically on either side of a hallway, grand doorway, or fireplace to establish visual balance. Accentuate the dark timber and marble surfaces with contemporary artwork or structured wall mirrors positioned directly above each table.

Clean the marble surface using a pH-neutral stone cleaner to avoid etching or discolouration. Maintain the mahogany frame by dusting regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish.
