Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the 19th century, a marble top console tableoften referred to as a pier tablewas designed to sit flush against a wall or between windows. These tables combined sturdy timber bases with durable stone tops, frequently incorporating mirror panels below to reflect light across formal rooms.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut for the framework, embellished with hand-carved detailing. Tops were cut from solid white or veined marble slabs, while mirrored glass plates were often set into the rear backboard.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, carved foliate or scroll motifs, and secondary timbers such as pine or oak inside the internal frame. The underside of the marble slab usually remains unpolished and displays historical hand-sawing marks.

Position the table in an entryway, hallway, or foyer to serve as an architectural anchor. Balance the heavy timber base and stone top by styling the surface with contemporary ceramics, table lamps, or a large mirror mounted above.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish along the grain annually. Clean the marble top using a soft cloth dampened with warm water and pH-neutral soap, avoiding acidic substances that etch porous stone.
