Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century mahogany writing table is typically characterized by straight lines, fine wood veneers, shallow drawers for paper storage, and tapered or turned legs. These pieces were designed for functional elegance in private studies or bedrooms.

Pieces from this period usually feature solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary timbers such as pine or oak, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, and cast brass hardware such as ring handles or backplates.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand craftsmanship, including irregular dovetail joints, hand-planed drawer linings, original brass locks or escutcheons, and natural surface wear consistent with age.

These tables adapt well as slim work desks in home offices, compact dressing tables in bedrooms, or decorative console tables in entryways, pairing effectively with contemporary lighting and neutral palettes.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and excess moisture.
