19th century Georgian style mahogany fretted Vauxhall style wall mirror. The mirror has some great shaping with a gilded hoho bird in the top and gilded slip around the mirror plate. All the shaped side parts are original. Good condition. Waxed finish.

Originating in the 18th century, Vauxhall mirrors feature fretwork scroll frames cut from mahogany or walnut timber, often decorated with gilded slips or carved cresting.

These mirrors were constructed using mahogany veneers on solid timber foundations, fitted with reflective glass plates and hand-carved gilded wood or gesso accents.
