Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging in the late nineteenth century, the Aesthetic Movement emphasised art for arts sake, drawing inspiration from Japanese motifs, nature, and simplified geometric forms. Furniture from this era frequently features dark or ebonised finishes, turned legs, fluting, and subtle stylized carved details.

Cabinetmakers typically used dense hardwoods such as fruitwood, beech, walnut, or mahogany, applying a dark stain or lacquer to imitate ebony wood. Construction incorporated mortise and tenon joinery, turned legs, cross stretchers, and brass castors for mobility.

Authentic late Victorian pieces display period-appropriate joinery, original brass castors with steel screws, and signs of age such as surface wear on high-touch areas. Inspecting the underside reveals original timber grain, age contraction, and hand-tooled construction marks.

An ebonised table acts as a strong visual anchor when placed beside modern upholstered seating or situated in a hallway. The dark architectural silhouette contrasts effectively against pale neutral walls, textured linen drapery, or minimal stone flooring.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to prevent abrasion. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and excessive water, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly once or twice a year to preserve the finish.
