Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 19th century, Aesthetic Movement furniture emphasised art for arts sake, drawing inspiration from Anglo-Japanese, Gothic, and Moorish aesthetics. Key elements include linear silhouettes, ebonised finishes, asymmetric details, and pierced or fretwork galleries.

Victorian craftspeople crafted ebonised furniture using fine-grained hardwoods such as birch, walnut, or beech, which were stained or dyed black to mimic costly tropical ebony wood. These pieces often featured light incised decoration or brass fittings.

Authentic period ebonised furniture displays subtle surface wear on edges revealing natural wood grain underneath, hand-cut joinery, and a matte to semi-gloss patina from age rather than a modern high-gloss polyurethane finish.

An ebonised table creates strong visual contrast when paired against neutral or pale backdrop walls. It serves well alongside upholstered sofas, styled with minimal ceramic objects, metallic brass lighting, or art books to complement the architectural dark lines.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh liquid polishers or alcohol-based solvents that can dissolve historic black dyes. Protect the ebonised surface with a high-quality beeswax applied sparingly once or twice a year.
