Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Rococo Revival mirrors are defined by asymmetrical scrollwork, acanthus leaves, shell motifs, and elaborate cresting. Popularised during the mid-to-late nineteenth century, this style drew heavy inspiration from eighteenth-century French Louis XV designs.

These mirror frames were predominantly crafted from carved timber overlaid with gesso, a plaster-like compound used to model fine details, before gold leaf was applied to create the gilded finish. The reflective surface typically consisted of silvered glass.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of hand carving, subtle craquelure or cracking in the gesso, and areas where the reddish-brown underlying clay preparation (bole) shows through worn gilding. Additionally, the backboard is usually constructed from rough-sawn pine or oak panels.

A carved giltwood mirror works well positioned above a fireplace mantelpiece, a console table, or a dining room sideboard. Placing an ornate period frame against a modern neutral or dark painted wall creates an effective visual contrast.

Dust the frame regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid applying water, household glass cleaners, or chemical solvents to the gilded surfaces, as moisture can dissolve the underlying gesso and loosen the gold leaf.
