Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chest on chest, also known as a tallboy, is a piece of case furniture consisting of two chests of drawers stacked one on top of the other. Popularised in the early 18th century, this design provided substantial vertical storage while maintaining a compact footprint.

Early 18th-century examples were typically constructed with a softwood carcase, such as pine or deal, veneered in figured or burr walnut with crossbanded and featherbanded borders. Handles and escutcheons were cast in brass, often featuring engraved backplates.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, secondary timber construction in oak or pine, and thin walnut veneers rather than solid walnut drawer fronts. Original brassware placement and period-correct bracket or bun feet are also key indicators.

In contemporary settings, a tallboy serves as an imposing focal point in a master bedroom, dressing room, or hallway. Modern interiors balance the warmth of rich walnut by pairing the piece with neutral wall tones, minimalist lighting, and clean architectural lines.

To preserve thin walnut veneers and original patination, maintain a stable indoor humidity level and keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight. Clean gently with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year.
